Côte d’Ivoire is the world’s largest producer of cocoa beans. The French name for the country (which translates as ‘Ivory Coast’) is also used in English. This is because the Ivorian government made a request in 1985 that the country be referred to as Côte d’Ivoire in all languages, without the use of a hyphen, which goes against the usual French convention of using hyphens in geographical names that consist of multiple words. Our office in Côte d’Ivoire is based in Abidjan, the capital of Côte d’Ivoire.
